Happy New Year Everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season filled with tons of food, happiness, family and friends. Instead of jetting off to ring in the New Year in a big city, my husband and I decided to celebrate going into 2019 with a good, old-fashioned Staycation.
Have you ever felt like you needed a vacation from your vacation? I always feel this way when returning from a vacation, especially if we had to travel far. Staycations allow you to take the time to appreciate life, your home, and your friends and family. I personally love a good staycation. I believe I get the best of both worlds. I take the time to relax and rest, as well as do things I love, especially since I cannot find the time to do this most days. Staying home can seem like a boring vacation to some, but sometimes a great adventure lies in your own backyard!
I believe you must take the time for yourself and listen to what your body needs every now and then. A staycation allows you to do this, instead of tiring yourself out visiting a new place. If you are super busy, take this time to relax - sleep in, enjoy a good glass of wine, and read that novel you bought months ago. If you still want to do some light travelling, take a few day trips to amusement parks, close big cities, museums, or beaches.
The wonderful part of a staycation is how inexpensive it can be. With saving money on airfare, hotels, food, and rental cars, you can now put that money to good use somewhere else.
My usual staycation involves sleep, sleep, and more sleep. In between my restful sleep I love reading a new good book or two, taking long walks, and enjoying a great glass of red wine (or maybe more). The most important thing to remember is to leave work at work! Do whatever you can to stop yourself from bringing your job home with you. Checking one email can lead you down the rabbit hole and bring up the stress you feel at work….no one wants that while they are trying to relax.
Luckily on this New Years staycation my wonderful sister-in-law came to spend time with us. We spent our days lounging, eating fantastic food, drinking the Soju she brought from Japan, and walking in local bike trails. It was truly relaxing and I feel like I am ready to take on 2019!
