Six Reasons to Visit Family For Your Next Vacation

Fall in Baltimore, is there a prettier place?

Fall in Baltimore, is there a prettier place?

Recently, I was lucky enough to spend two quick days visiting family in Baltimore, Maryland. My brother, sister-in-law, and baby nephew currently call this wonderful city home, and I love visiting them there!

When deciding what to write about in my FIRST-EVER blog post it was a no brainer to choose the reasons why I love spending my vacation time visiting family.

Whether you are just a driving distance away or have to travel by air, below are my six reasons to visit family for your next vacation.

  1. CONNECT (OR RECONNECT) WITH FAMILY: Visiting family offers you the ability to have a conversation without technology! If your family are only texters, this offers you the ability to feel the energy, enthusiasm and excitement in their voices. Although Facetime, Snapchat, and Facebook Video Messenger are amazing and give us the opportunity to stay up-to-date with family members and their lives easier than ever before, it should not be the only way to communicate. While technology is a fantastic resource to stay “in the know”, it DOES NOT take the place of actual sit down conversations.

  2. BUILT-IN TOUR GUIDES: I am sure I am not the only one who looks up everything to do in the city they are visiting and stresses about what to do each day. Thank you google for the travel information you possess on every city, but most of the time the internet only gives you data for all the tourist spots and hangouts. I am not always interested in going to those spots; I don’t want to see the city like a tourist. I want to meet local people and swap stories in the neighborhood pub. Every time I go to a city I have family in, like Baltimore, I get to see something new, eat something different, and see the city like a local!

  3. NO HOTEL BILLS: I especially love this part and probably should have listed it first! Money can be a huge issue why people choose not to travel. I am always looking for ways to save money when traveling and not paying for a hotel is a huge advantage! That money can then be transferred to another part of the vacation, such as souvenirs, cuisine, or even to other travel adventures!

  4. A HOME AWAY FROM HOME: I love the old proverb “home is where the heart is” and I feel that this does not apply to just one place. Similar to most people, I live far away from many of my family members (with some of them even in Europe) and I feel that every time I visit them in their cities I am heading “home”.

  5. RELIEVES TRAVEL STRESS: We all have to deal with stress on a daily basis; whether it comes from work, school, friends, or other activities. I believe that stress should not follow you on your vacations. Which is why it is fantastic to see family for your vacation….you now have people to pick you up and drop you off at the airport and take you around town to show you the sites. That stress of wondering how you will get to and fro in the city is no longer a problem. Plus, you can save your Uber money.

  6. CREATE FAMILY MEMORIES: Friends can come and go but family is forever and it is crucial to enhance those relationships. Creating memories with family will aid in building and strengthening important life-long relationships. Taking time together and sharing activities creates long-lasting memories to reflect upon for years to come.

Now go out and make those memories!
